Energy from Biomass

Modern biomass power stations

Wood is stored solar energy. This is the reason that we convert 180,000t of biomass annually into environmentally friendly eco-energy: holistic, sustainable and complete.

Next door to our saw mill we operate two biomass cogeneration plants with a total capacity of 8.5 MW and thermal capacity of 25 MW.

Environmentally friendly energy

In the biomass cogeneration power stations we burn bark and rind, which accrues from sawing output, and energy wood, such as firewood, forest trimmings and off cuts and tree harvesting leftovers. Eco-power is produced by the steam turbines and is fed into the KELAG grid. The resulting waste heat supplies the drying kilns at Hasslach and also supplies several households in Sachsenburg and Möllbrücke with district heating.

The waste heat from the flue gas condensation in the heat plant is used to dry the sawdust which is delivered to the Seppele GmbH pelleting plant which is immediately next door.

Thus not only the timber raw material is completely utilised but so also is the energy efficiency of the energy timber.
