10.11.08 Wood–Concrete Composite System (HBV)
The HASSLACHER Group is Austria’s only license holder for broad, low-vibrating HBV frames
For the first time ever, low-vibrating, slender, and affordable frame systems without any larger formwork efforts have been created
“The sensitivity to vibration and deformation of timber formwork design is a disadvantage in constructional woodwork. The aim of our research efforts was, thus, to develop a product, which meets the demands of modern woodwork, without desisting from the positive aspects of wood material”, states Christoph Kulterer, managing director of the HASSLACHER Group.
The advantages of solid concrete are connected with the aesthetics of wood in the wood-concrete composite system (HBV). The principal piece of this solution is a connecting plate, which has been certified by building authorities in Austria and Germany, between the wooden cross section and the concrete slab. The HASSLACHER Group is the only Austrian company, which is accredited and certified to produce the wooden components and the bonded shear connectors.
The HBV frame systems are offered in diverse variations: joist ceilings of up to 8 m wide, wooden frame constructions with concrete assemblies of up to 12 m wide, as well as pre-fabricated concrete frame systems of up to 15 m wide are producible, as well as wall and ceiling elements, which function as connecting parts or bridge construction components. The first project – establishing special schools in Linz/Upper Austria – was already successfully implemented in the summer of 2008. The main purchasing factors were ceiling loads of up to 5 kN/m², which were attainable with the HBV frames, as well as large widths of 8 m and a low amount of vibration sensitivity. With 8 x 2,5 m elements, an extremely high degree of pre-fabrication speaks for this building method.
The HASSLACHER Group
Is one of the largest timber industry operations in Austria, and has an annual turnover of 165 million euros. Its sawmills in Sachsenburg, Arnoldstein, and Liebenfels generate an annual cutting capacity of around 1.000.000 fm. Moreover, its locations in Sachsenburg and its headquarters include a planing factory, a glued wood factory, and two biomass plants. The family business, which has over 100 years of tradition, produces lumber, glulam, dual-balks, tri- balks, glued wall slats and ceiling components, as well as bio-energy. The export quota of the group is 75%, and the most important export markets are Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan, and the Levants.
